Concept Summary: A celebration of the city’s Sesquicentennial through the abstraction of the word “free” which becomes a dancing flame of resolve that honors the city’s history as a “Free State” and recalls a quote by a former Lawrencian - poet Langston Hughes (1902-1967): “We have tomorrow bright before us like a flame.”
